Clay in Conversation 11: Residencies

The eleventh in a series of curated conversations, Clay in Conversation presents artists working with clay and ceramics.

For this episode of Clay In Conversation11 we are diving deep into the world of Artist/Makers Residencies. We’re delighted to welcome Harriet Hellman, Jacqui Ramrayka, Alex Simpson and Julia Ellen Lancaster. Each artist will share their experience of a residency they have undertaken, how they came about, what the expectations were and what the outcomes were.

The presentations will be followed by an open panel exchange, chaired by Tessa Peters which asks and opens the questions, what is the value of residencies, what do we as artists want from residencies? how do we find the right residency for our practice, can we influence the design of residencies being offered? We’ll include some tips on applying for residencies and signposting to resources.

The discussion will invite a Q&A with the audience. This will be your chance to explore the possibilities of a residency, ask questions about the residencies these artists have experience of, share ideas on what you’d like a residency to look like, hopefully you’ll leave with some fresh ideas as to how you can pursue those.

The Clay in Conversation series is curated by artist @juliaellenlancaster_ceramics in partnership with Ceramics Research Centre UK @uow_cream

The series provides a platform for presentation, dialogue and discovery, bringing together a diverse range of artists with a practice using clay and ceramics. Each episode centres on a different theme - acting as a lens through which the artists present and share projects.
